Frequently Asked Questions

Can you guarantee funding?

We cannot guarantee funding, that is out of our control. Funding sources may shift priorities at the last minute, have limited funds, or focus on specific types of nonprofits. Additionally, some foundations may not award grant applications (on average) the first three times that a nonprofit submits a grant application. This is due to getting to know the nonprofit and why so many start-up nonprofits dissolve early on. Plus, an application is not just submitting a document, but it is creating a relationship and sometimes those relationships take some time before they result in funding. What we can do, is help you create a sustainable grant plan and create momentum, even when grants are not awarded.

I prefer to write my own grants. Why should I hire Cedar Hills Grant Writing?

If you prefer to write your own grants then that’s great! We have services that can support you such as Researching Grant Funding Opportunities and Grant Reviews to give you feedback on your grant to save you time and help you write a better grant.

Which Platforms are used for communication?

We use Fillout and Microsoft Teams for our video calls. We will also communicate through email.

What is ‘Grant Readiness’ and why is it important?

Grant Readiness refers to the state of being fully prepared to apply for and receive grant funding. This includes having all necessary documentation in place,  obtaining a clear understanding of grant requirements, developing a well-defined project, and a strong financial management system to manage and report on received grant funds. Our Nonprofit Wellness Audit is a great tool to help you get grant-ready. Applying for grants without full preparedness can result in reduced chances of success in receiving grant awards.

Do you offer Grant Management?

Currently, we do not offer grant management services. We recommend designating a qualified individual within your nonprofit to oversee the tracking and reporting of the grant funds to the funder.

What is grant writing?

The process of creating a written proposal to request funding from a grant-making organization, such as the government or a private foundation. A grant has many different sections: An abstract, Needs/Problem section, Goals and Objectives of the program, About the Organization, Partners, Board Members, Staffing Structure, About the Project, Challenges and Contingencies, Budget, Budget Narrative, Logic Model, etc.. In summary, a grant is a complicated application involving many different parts.

Who is eligible for Grants?

Most grants require a nonprofit to have a 501(c)3 tax-exempt status. Although requirements vary depending on the funder.  Our Grant Research Package is great for helping you find just the right grants for your Nonprofit Organization.

Can a grant writer be paid out of the awarded grant funds?

No, Industry best practices do not allow grant writers to be compensated with a percentage or commission of a grant award. According to the Association of Fundraising Professionals and Grant Professionals Association, paying a commission on grants awarded is unethical and can lead to the revocation of grant awards. It is also in contrast to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) for nonprofit fundraising.

What are your prices?

We work on a project-based pricing model instead of an hourly rate. This provides more cost transparency to keep your budgeting on track. Book a discovery Sales call to discuss our available packages.
